Composite Decking
Oakdale Fencing stock a wide range of composite decking suitable for any garden or outdoor project. Whether you're creating a garden retreat, a patio area or an outdoor living space, our composite decking boards deliver a premium finish that lasts. All our composite decking products are available for delivery throughout the UK.
What is Composite Decking?
Composite decking is a modern alternative to traditional timber decking, made from a combination of wood fibres and recycled plastic. The result is a highly durable, low-maintenance decking board that replicates the natural look of wood without the ongoing upkeep. Composite decking boards are resistant to rot, fading, splintering and staining, making them an excellent long-term investment for any outdoor space.
Unlike traditional timber decking, composite decking does not require regular sanding, staining or treating. A simple wash down is all that's needed to keep your deck looking its best year after year.
Why Choose Composite Decking?
TRUdeck composite decking is crafted from a carefully balanced mix of 63% wood powder, 29% recycled HDPE, 8% adhesive, along with colourants and anti-fungal agents. This precise combination delivers outstanding stability and long-term durability, resulting in a composite decking board that is as strong as it is attractive. The premium composite outer skin is available in six elegant colours with a high-quality finish, making TRUdeck a real statement feature in any garden style or setting.
Installation is straightforward — TRUdeck is fixed at 400mm centres using an innovative clip system designed to speed up fitting whilst ensuring the boards remain secure and stable for years to come.
For peace of mind, TRUdeck composite decking has been independently tested and meets all required slip resistance standards in accordance with EN 15534-1:2014.
There are many reasons homeowners and tradespeople are making the switch to composite decking:
Low Maintenance One of the biggest advantages of composite decking is how little upkeep it requires. There's no need for annual painting, staining or treating, simply clean it down periodically and it will continue to look great.
Long Lasting Durability Composite decking is designed to withstand the Great British weather. It won't rot, warp or splinter like traditional timber, meaning your decking will look just as good in ten years as it did on day one.
Realistic Wood Effect Modern composite decking boards are manufactured to closely replicate the natural grain and appearance of real wood. Available in a variety of colours and finishes, you can achieve the look you want to complement your home and garden.
Eco-Friendly Many composite decking boards are made using recycled materials, making them a more environmentally conscious choice compared to some traditional timber alternatives.
Slip Resistant Composite decking boards are typically textured to provide a slip-resistant surface, making them a safe choice for families with children or elderly relatives.
Things to Consider When Choosing Composite Decking
Before purchasing your composite decking, there are a few things worth thinking about to make sure you choose the right product for your project.
Colour and Finish: Composite decking is available in a range of colours, from light naturals through to darker charcoal and grey tones. Consider the colour of your home, garden furniture and fencing when making your choice.
Board Profile: Composite boards are available in solid and hollow core profiles. Solid core boards are heavier and generally more robust, while hollow core boards are lighter and can be easier to handle during installation.
Area Size: Work out the square meterage of the area you wish to deck before ordering. It's always worth ordering a small amount extra to account for any cutting during installation.
Subframe: A proper subframe is essential for a good composite decking installation. Ensure your joists are correctly spaced and level before laying your boards.

Composite Decking Installation Guide
Installing composite decking is a straightforward process, but it's important to take your time and prepare properly to get the best results.
Equipment Needed: Tape Measure, Circular Saw or Mitre Saw, Drill, Rubber Mallet, String Line, Spirit Level
Safety Wear: Gloves, Work Boots, Safety Goggles, Dust Mask
Materials: Composite Decking Boards, Composite Decking Joists or Timber Subframe, Hidden Fixing Clips, Starter Clips, Fascia Boards (optional), Screws and Fixings
Step 1: Begin by planning your deck layout and calculating the area to be covered. Use a string line to mark out the perimeter and identify any obstacles such as drains or garden features.
Step 2: Construct your subframe using treated timber joists or composite joists. Joists should be laid at no more than 400mm centres for a solid, stable base. Ensure the frame is level using a spirit level — this is a critical step as an uneven subframe will affect the finished result.
Step 3: Lay the first composite board along one edge of the frame and secure it using starter clips. Starter clips are fixed to the joist and grip the groove on the underside of the board, holding it firmly in place.
Step 4: Insert hidden fixing clips into the groove of the first board at each joist position. These clips will both secure the board and create the correct spacing gap for the next board. The expansion gap between boards allows for natural thermal movement.
Step 5: Continue laying boards across the frame, pressing each one firmly into the previous clip before inserting new clips at each joist. Use a rubber mallet to ensure each board is seated correctly.
Step 6: At the end of each row, measure and cut boards to length using a circular or mitre saw. Always wear appropriate safety equipment when cutting.
Step 7: Once all boards are laid, finish the edges with composite fascia boards for a clean, professional appearance. Fascia boards can be fixed directly to the outside of the subframe.
Step 8: Finally, check over the entire deck for any boards that may need adjusting and ensure all fixings are secure. Your composite deck is now ready to enjoy.
